Suggested Setup

Tripp-Lite UPS's have either 3 or 4 outlets on the battery/surge section, and a power strip may be supplied to plug into the battery section increasing the number of outlets.  It is required that the CPU (computer), Networking Hub and firewall be the only components connected to the battery side of the UPS.  Below are additional acceptable items to plug into the UPS as well as excluded items.

Features and benefits of the Tripp-Lite UPS

  1. Contains battery-protected outlets for extended run time during power outages.
  2. Contains surge-only outlets for less critical equipment.
  3. Power conditioning to protect from loads and surges.
  4. “PowerAlert” software to properly save data and shutdown the computer in the event of an extended power failure.

Power Settings (500 RT1U)

There are no specific settings for the Tripp-Lite Internet Office-UPS in the V1 X-Changer.  The following setup information refers only to the Tripp-Lite 500RT1U in the V2 X-Changer.

The Tripp-Lite UPS in conjunction with the Power Alert software are intended to safely shutdown a PC after a power loss to the UPS has occurred.  The Power Alert agent can be configured to perform differently when the UPS enters an On Battery Event (i.e. the UPS is receiving power from the battery and not AC power) and when a Low Battery Event occurs (i.e. the battery charge rate drops to a designated threshold).

To configure the 500RT1U unit battery access the following:

  1. Click the Windows button on the keyboard.
  2. Type PowerAlert Console
  3. Click the STATUS Icon at the top of the Console
  4. Click the BATTERY Icon
  5. View the Battery Information under Device Summary

Legacy configuration for LaundryCard utilized a 2 min. PC shutdown timer and a 6 min. UPS shutdown timer.

Set Configuration

  1. Click the Windows button on the keyboard.
  2. Type Power Alert
  3. Selct PowerAlert Console when it appears (a-c is applicable to Version 7 or earlier.  For version 8 or later, skip to step 5)
    1. Open Start menu view
    2. Right-click anywhere and click ‘All apps’ at bottom/right
    3. Locate PowerAlert Console icon under the Tripp-Lite group
  4. If a Windows Security Alert dialog appears, press Allow Access
  5. From the Summary Screen, press Settings
  6. Select Device

Testing (500 RT1U)

  1. To test your UPS, follow the owner's manual section titled "To Run a Self-Test" page 7.  The procedure will be similar to the following:
    1. With your UPS plugged in and turned on, press and hold the ON/OFF/STANDBY button for one second.
    2. The test will last approximately 10 seconds as the UPS switches to battery to test its load capacity and charge.
    3. All LEDs will be lit and the UPS alarm will sound.
    4. See LED descriptions to determine the results of the Self-Test.
    5. Note: you can leave connected equipment on during a self-test. Your UPS, however, will not perform a self-test if you have placed it in "Charge Only" mode.
