How To: Install the C-1491-V2 Mikrotik hAP ax³ SAT in a FasCard Location

Overview

This guide will provide detailed instructions on how to install a Mikrotik hAP ax³ SAT in a FasCard location, whether for newly established setups or replacing legacy Satellite Access Points (SAPs) throughout.

Requirements

  • C-1491-V2 Mikrotik hAP ax³ SAT (must be preconfigured for FasCard use).

    • The Mikrotik hAP ax³ mounting plate, supplied anchors and screws are included with the device.

  • C-0177 15' Cat5e Cable

  • C-0181 100' Cat5e Cable

    • 100' is the suggested maximum cable length for SAT use. Latency/bandwidth issues may become a factor if connecting cable is over 100'.

  • C-5605 Satellite PoE Adapter

Tools

  • Phillips Screwdriver

  • (Optional) Power Drill or Impact Driver

  • (Optional) Any additional mounting hardware at the discretion of the installer.

Preparation

  1. Capture the E01 MAC Address (format will be 12 hexadecimal characters in length with colons between every two characters) and add the SAT to the location using the FasCard Admin Site. This can be done at any point in the process, or before/after.

    1. To be ready for the above, it is recommended to have immediate, available access to the FasCard Admin Site.

Note: When adding a SAT to the location, ensure that the SAT is on the latest FasSat version available.

Instructions

When installing a SAT at a location keep in mind that nearly every building, facility, layout, store configuration, etc. may be dramatically different from one another. The following is our recommended set of steps compatible for the greater majority of locations. Any changes made in-person are at the discretion of the installer and/or any authorized personnel on-site.

Installation for New Store Locations

  1. Identify and locate any ideal mounting areas where the SAT can optimally perform the following:

    1. Broadcast a wireless signal in an open area with little-to-no interference.

    2. Reach a wide range of readers in the same open area. Ceilings/tiles, centered bulkheads or pillars are good mounting examples.

  2. Identify and locate an appropriate power outlet for the C-5605 Power over Ethernet (PoE) adapter. Alternatively, if using the included power adapter, find an appropriate power outlet in range for plugging in the power adapter. DO NOT use both sources of power with a SAT.

  3. When the right place is chosen the following must be performed:

    1. Carefully feed any necessary cabling (e.g. a 100' 22-24AWG Cat5e/Cat6 Ethernet Cable, or ethernet cable + power cable if no PoE present) from its intended source to the SAT destination, securing any cabling so as to not have hanging or draping cables.

      1. If a new SAT Install Kit was provided, the appropriate cables and PoE adapter should be included and utilized.

    2. Mount the included mounting plate to the selected location. Ensure the locking tabs for the SAT are facing away from the mounted space.

The plate is mounted via two accessible mounting holes 75mm (2.95”) apart.
      1. The hAP ax³ comes with two anchors and screws for drywall / ceiling / soft tile application, if needed. Securing the mounting plate to the appropriate space is at the installer’s discretion.

  4. Secure the SAT to the mounting plate through its two clips (top and front views pictured).

  5. Connect the C-0181 100' Cat5e ethernet cable to the Port 1 PoE port in the rear of the SAT. Alternatively, if the included power adapter is utilized instead, connect the power cable as well. DO NOT use both ports together as combined power sources.

  6. When using PoE as a power source, connect the provided C-0177 15' Cat5e cable from the ‘Data In’ port on the PoE adapter into the customer-supplied internet device.

  1. Connect the opposing end of the 100' Cat5e cable to the ‘Data and Power Out’ port on the PoE adapter. Alternatively, if using the included power adapter instead, connect the Cat5e cable directly into the customer-supplied router or internet provider device for supplying internet to the SAT.

At this point, the SAT will need to be added to the location via the FasCard Admin Site to complete the process.

Once mounted and powered, the SAT will take approximately 15 or more minutes to fully install and download its initial configuration for FasCard/FLEX use. SAT status can be viewed from the System Maintenance page or the Location's Satellites page in the FasCard Mobile App when logged in as a store admin or authorized user.
