The Talos Bill Note Acceptor (BNA)

The Talos Bill Note Acceptor (BNA)

Overview

The Talos Bill Note Acceptor (BNA) created by Crane Payment Innovations (CPI) is the latest in a line of Bill Note Acceptor models to be used with CCI's X-Changer Cabinets and FasCard Kiosks. This page discusses its properties, configuration, and installation of the device.

General information

The overall functionality of the Talos BNA is the same as its MEI 2000 predecessor. The major differences are how these units are programmed, diagnostic testing, and overall style. To purchase a new Talos BNA, you will need to provide one of the following part numbers to your distributor depending on your system and cabinet requirements:

If you are unsure which Talos BNA model you need to purchase, please contact CCI Technical Support at 630-930-5115, option #2.

Operation details

As with the Legacy MEI 2000 BNAs, the Talos BNA connects using the same harness and two ports for data and power.

By default, the Talos BNA can only accept $1, $2, $5, $10, and $20 bills. It can be programmed to accept $50 and $100 using a coupon booklet, see Programming the Talos BNA section below.

Talos BNAs do not have a large (1000 note) capacity bill holder/cassette at this time.

Key differences

In addition to the aforementioned changes with the Talos BNA, here are some other differences between Talos and 2000 BNAs:

  • C-5660-V2 models are fit for Touch Kiosk use.

  • C-1004-V2 models are fit for v2 LaundryCard X-Changers and Add Value Kiosks.

    • Add Value Kiosks utilize a different Communication Harness (C-5690R2) and are thus incompatible with the legacy C-5690 harness.

  • Where the MEI Legacy 2000 series of BNAs had a set of eight (8) dipswitches for manual configuration, the Talos BNA utilizes a dollar-sized configuration insert sheet.

  • The 'Accepted Orientations' setting does not work with a Talos BNA, instead requiring a filled-out configuration sheet to set bill orientation preferences.

Programming the Talos BNA

The Talos BNA is pre-programmed and ready to work natively out-of-the-box for your LaundryCard or FasCard system. Should the configuration of the BNA be lost or need updating (i.e., accepting $50 bills or changing orientation), a will be required.

This is how the booklet will look and will require you to fill out the fields for the coupon on the right side.

By default, all Talos BNAs are preprogrammed under Mode 0 which is ‘High Acceptance’. Any modes higher than Mode 0 introduce stricter security features such as 'High Security', and should only be used when necessary.

Diagnostic testing

As opposed to its predecessor, the Talos BNA only utilizes the front LED lights, both for recognition it is being used and for troubleshooting. To trigger front bezel LED diagnostic flash codes, partially insert and hold a bill in the bill path until the bezel lights flash and then refer to the below chart to determine the issue.
