Required Hardware
Two versions of the touch pad replacement kit exist. The installation of the button membrane is the same for both versions - the primary difference is in the design of the cover label.
Type 1
This kit has been replaced by Type 2, below. It is no longer available.
This kit includes a label to cover the screws on the FasCard reader. The button membrane is pre-labeled.

Instructions
Step 1 - Remove Reader Control Board
- Remove two screws mounted on each corner of the main card reader board
Remove ribbon cable connector from main board. Don't put to much force when removing this cable. Remove connector from right to left.
- Tilt control board away from grey bezel, and lift it out.
Step 2 - Disconnect and Remove Existing Button Membrane
- Remove blue/silver stripe ribbon cable from wi-fi radio board, highlighted in Fig. 2a. Gently pull up on cable to remove.
Peel off sticker (C-5021) that is around the touch pad.
Now remove the touch pad carefully.
The touch pad now should be removed and the front of the reader should now look like this.Clean the front of the reader with some rubbing alcohol and make sure there is no sticker residue on the reader.
Replacing Fascard Reader with New Touch Pad
On the end of part # C-5050 there is flap you can fold. Make sure the flap end is pointing up as you see here in this example. - Peel off the back end of the touch pad. There are two sections you need to peel off.
- Mount the touch pad onto the front of the card reader. Insert the touch pad connection flap through the slit opening of the reader. Make sure the connection flap fold is facing down when inserting. When doing this the touch pad up arrow will be on the left and enter button on right.
Align touch pad sticker onto reader and make sure it fits properly and secure.
Connect touch pad cable back to radio board.
Re-Attach ribbon cable connector to main card reader board.
- Remove the touch pad - the connected ribbon cable should slide out with the button membrane.
- Clean the touch pad and cover label surface with rubbing alcohol to remove all adhesive residue.
Step 3 - Install New Button Membrane
- Fold the touch pad ribbon cable up as shown below.
- Peel off both protective backing pieces to expose the touch pad adhesive.
- Insert the folded end of the ribbon cable through the bezel opening. Make sure the fold is facing down so the "up arrow" is on the left and "enter dash" is on right.
- If the button membrane replacement is C-5051 type, installation is the same but the C-5052 label must be applied in the correct alignment. See Fig. 3d and 3e, below.
Step 4 - Reconnect Touch Membrane to Control Board
- Connect ribbon cable back to wi-fi radio board, then put remaining components back together. (Refer to Step 2 if needed)
- If using the older C-5050 Button Membrane, apply the C-5021 screw cover label once the card reader is mounted on the associated machine.
