Rebooting helps prevent software problems before they happen. It is recommended that this be done on a monthly basis after business hours. Doing so refreshes memory so Windows can better correct itself, and restarts any programs that have stopped. This can be initiated by owners remotely, but requires a confirmation button press on-site by the store attendant.

On this page:

This maintenance procedure is recommended for use after business hours, and does not necessarily clear ALL error messages. It is recommended to check errors before and after this procedure. Failure to properly complete the following steps can lead to data loss. Card Concepts Inc takes no responsibility for data loss due to human error, hardware failure, or other such circumstances.

Determining the Primary System

Determine which computer is running the Primary database.
For LaundryCard version 6.5 and newer, the top-left of the screen shows this information. Older versions require the Store Status page.

Older versions of LaundryCard do NOT show Primary/Backup indicators in the top left of the screen.
Access the Store Status page from the Technician menu instead.

The Primary will be labeled "Database" in the top yellow section underneath "Local Computer"
The Backup will be labeled "BackupDB"

Database: DSN=CCI1SQL;UID=sa
BackupDB: DSN=CCI2SQL;UID=sa

      Version 6

      Version 7

For the above example, X-Changer A is the Primary and X-Changer B is the Backup. In Store Status, verify the the right side of the screen labeled "Remote Computer" is displaying the same database status information as the left side.

(warning)  If not, stop the reboot process and contact CCI. Please note the above is only an example and it is normal for the system to occasionally have CCI2 as the Primary and CCI1 as the Backup.

Reboot Backup

  1. Insert Manager's card to Backup X-Changer and click the Shutdown button.

  2. Select Reboot this Machine and click Go.

    • (warning)  Version 6: DO NOT UNCHECK AUTO START!

      Version 6

  3. A message will appear for confirming the action, press OK to continue.

  4. After the LaundryCard program closes, it leaves another window to finally confirm the reboot. Press OK. This will take between 5 and 7 minutes.

  5. The Backup computer will shut down and reboot. During this time, the Primary X-Changer and washer/dryers may appear to be frozen/unusable. This is normal behavior and will "free up" once the Backup computer has finished. Also, a network error will appear on the Primary X-Changer This is normal because it recognizes the Backup is offline. Once the Backup has finished and returned to the welcome screen, a WCRD error will appear on it. Again, this is a normal while the Backup re-connects to all readers in the store. Once all red lines have disappeared, walk around and verify the card readers appear normal, then proceed to Reboot Primary.

After the backup completes its reboot, check system messages. If new errors have appeared, wait 5 minutes for them to clear automatically. DO NOT restart the Primary X-Changer. Call CCI support for further assistance if necessary.

Reboot Primary

  1. Insert Manager's card to Primary X-Changer and click the Shutdown button.

  2. Select Fail over to Backup and click Go.

    • (warning)  Version 6: DO NOT UNCHECK AUTO START!

  3. A message will appear for confirming the action, press OK to continue.

  4. After the LaundryCard program closes, it gives a notification that the database backup is complete, and finally confirms the reboot. Press OK on both windows. Notice how after a few minutes, the Primary is now the opposite X-Changer. This indicates a successful fail over.

Please Note: A red line always appears at the top of the screen for up to 5 minutes after a reboot. This is normal. Please give the computers enough time to sync with the rest of the store.
