Overview

This guide is meant to walk the end-user through creating a VPN connection in Windows 10. 

Step-by-step guide

Create the connection

  1. Right-click the Start button.
  2. Click Settings.
  3. In the Windows Settings dialog click Network & Internet.
  4. On the left-hand side click VPN.
  5. From the right pane, click Add a VPN connection.
  6. On the Add a VPN connection box, populate the fields as follows:
    1. VPN Provider: Windows (built-in)
    2. Connection Name: <give the connection a friendly name you will understand>
    3. Server name or address: <enter the ip address or dns name (ie. vpn.somesite.com)>
    4. VPN Type:  <choose the appropriate type; generally either "Point to Point Tunneling Protocol (PPTP)" or "L2TP/IPsec with pre-shared key"
    5. L2TP PreShared Key - NoMoreCoins2Collect
    6. Type of sign-in info: User name and password
    7. User name (optional): <your username>
    8. Password (optional): <your password>
    9. Remember my sign-in info: (tick)
    10. Press the Save button.

How to connect

  1. Once the connection has been created, click the Network icon in the System Tray (bottom-right area of the screen).
    NOTE: The icon will vary depending on whether your computer is connected via a cable or wireless.

  2. Click on the desired connection and then click Connect.
