FasCard Satellite (SAT) Installation

Overview

This document described the installation process of a FasCard Satellite (SAS). 

Disconnect any electrical device from power before performing any work on the device. It is recommended that the instructions contained herein be performed by individuals who are qualified to perform these tasks.

Card Concepts Inc. takes no responsibility for the accuracy of this document or any damage that may occur to target equipment. Technical Support recommends using all appropriate safety equipment (such as hand and eye protection) during execution of the instructions below.

Step-by-step guide

  1. Survey the location for an appropriate SAP installation site. Note the following when looking for an install site: 
    1. The SAP should be located in the center of all FasCard associated readers. The wireless range of the readers is approximately 90 feet. The SAPs range is approximately 180 feet in diameter.  
    2. The SAP can either be ceiling mounted or wall mounted, using the included mounting tabs. 

    3. The SAP comes with a 100' Cat5 Ethernet cable. This cable will connect the SAP to the locations' Internet connection. 

      Cable length notice

      The Cat5 Ethernet cable should be no longer than 100'. If longer than 100', there could be latency, or bandwidth reduction preventing a clear internet connection.

    4. The path in which the Cat5 is to be ran through should be free of hazards that may damage or interfere with the cable.
      1. Avoid high frequency devices such as lighting ballasts, microwaves, cordless phones, and neon lighting. 
    5. If multiple SAPs are being installed, choose equal ranges between all the SAPs and readers, so they can provide redundancy and can cover the entire group of FasCard equipment. 
  2. Mount the SAP in the site you have deemed best, based on the recommendations above.  
    1. The SAP has multiple mounting tabs on the bottom, use standard screws with wall anchors, if needed.
  3. Connect the C-0181 100' Cat5 cable to Port 1/PoE on the SAP.



  4. Run the opposite end of the C-0181 Cat5 cable from the SAP to the local Internet connection in the building.
    1. Use cable ties to secure cabling to solid structures along the cable pathway, stay clear of any objects that may cause harm to the cable.

  5. Connect the provided C-0177 15' Cat5 cable to the customer supplied Internet device (e.g. router or modem) and the other end into the "Data In" port of the C-5605 PoE adapter.

    Internet provider requirements

    The Internet Service Provider (ISP) for the location must issue a DHCP IP address. Static IP addressing will not work on the SAP. 

  6. Connect the C-0181 100' Ethernet cable from the SAP into the "Data & Power Out" port of the C-5605 PoE adapter.

  7. Plug the C-5605 PoE adapter into a working wall receptacle (outlet).

    Satellite power notice

    The FasCard SAP (Mikrotik 951G-2HnD) device can accept power through its power jack or through the first Ethernet port:

    • The DC power jack accepts 8-30V DC.
      • The DC power accepts a 5.5mm outside diameter, 2mm inside diameter, female, pin positive plug.
    • The first Ethernet port accepts passive Power over Ethernet (PoE) 8-30V DC.
      • The 951G-2HnD SAP does not support PoE+ or PoE++ which typically supplies 48V DC.
    • Attempting to power a 951G-2HnD SAP with anything over its maximum rated acceptable input voltage of 30V DC may harm the device.
    • Under maximum load, the power consumption of this device is 7W.
  8. The SAP will boot up and try and establish a connection to the Internet and the FasCard servers, this process can take between 2 to 5 minutes. 
  9. Install the FasCard readers on to the host equipment. 
    1. Follow the instructions as provided for the appropriateFasCard Reader Installation - Archived installation guide for the type of equipment you are installing.
  10. Address the FasCard reader to its pre-assigned address on the Admin site.

  11. Test the machine. 
    1. Be sure to test the machine with coins and cards to confirm successful operation.
