Overview

This install guide goes over the detailed installation steps for an F2/F3touchscreen FasCard/FLEX reader onto an existing machine in either ahigh-front or top-mount position.

C-5402/C-5426-BASE incompatibility

The below solutions are not compatible with previousused high-front/top mount readers or mounting bases.

Swipe Clearance Notice

For top-mount placements, CCI strongly recommends mounting the front of the top-mount bracket 1-1/4 inches from the front of the machine, to allow for card swipe clearance.

Ensure the drilled hole aligns accordingly. Mounting the top-mount bracket any further back then 1-1/4inches from the front of the machine to the edge of the reader can potentially interfere with mounting the reader to the bracket and may prevent users from being able to swipe or insert a card into the reader due to lack of clearance.

Step-by-step guide

Disconnect any electrical device from power before performing any work on the device. It is recommended that the instructions contained herein be performed by individuals who are qualified to perform these tasks.

Card Concepts Inc. takes no responsibility for the accuracy of this document or any damage that may occur to target equipment. Technical Support recommends using all appropriate safety equipment (such as hand and eye protection) during execution of the instructions below.

Step 1 - Drilling Preparation

  1. Select the part of the machine where the high-front or top-mount bracket will be installed. Ensure this location, whether on the chassis or a panel, is away from any existing components or exposed wiring.

    1. Mark where you may want to mount the reader with a permanent marker if needed.

  2. Whether keeping the chassis/panel intact, exposing, or removing saidchassis/panel, apply some cutting oil where drilling through metal will takeplace.

  3. Drill the oiled section in question carefully using the tungsten carbidetipped hole cutter.

  4. With the drilled hole prepped, you are nowready to mount the reader.

Step 2 - Mounting the bracket & reader

Please choose the tab that is associated with the type ofinstallation you are completing.

High-front mount

In a high-front mounting solution where the FasCard readerwill be angled downward toward the customer in regard to tallermachines, our C-6465 bracket would be used for thisinstall.

 High-front mount Step-by-step guide
  1. Attach the C-6465 High Mount Bracket in itsplace, securing it down with a chase nipple.

  2. Mount the universal bracket to the high-frontbracket with two (2) 8-32 screws and feed theharness wiring through the center. Whether choosing to feedwiring first or mounting the bracket first is no problem as longas the end result (pictured below) is achieved.

  3. Connect the harnesses to their appropriate locations in the backof the reader.

    1. For information about where the individual harnessesconnect to, please see F2: FasCard Touchscreen Reader

  4. Slowly mount the reader to the corresponding bracket with thetop lip catching the locking edge and carefully wedging thereader in place. Ensure no metal edges of the bracket arevisible.

  5. Secure the reader with the provided T15 secure torxscrews on the bottom.

    1. This may be part of the install kits or the screwsused from a previous high-front solution.

      Screwdriver Angling

As the reader is angled downward inhigh-front solutions, securing the reader may require a thinner secure torx screwdriver or a flex extension for the appropriate torx bit to accommodate for the angle.

  6. Only F3 FasCard readers – Remove any plastic protectors (if still present) from thetouchscreen or EMV chip insert label.

Top-Mount

Swipe Clearance Notice

As stated above, only for top-mount solutions thefront of the top-mount bracket 1-1/4 inches from the front of the machine, to allow for card swipe clearance.

Ensure the drilled hole aligns accordingly. Mounting thetop-mount bracket any further back then 1-1/4inches from the front of the machine tothe edge of the reader can potentially interfere withmounting the reader to the bracket and may prevent usersfrom being able to swipe or insert a card into the readerdue to lack of clearance.

In a top-mount solution, the process differs slightly from afront or high-front mounting solution. Our C-6452bracket would be used in this orientation.

 Top-mount Step-by-step guide
  1. Attach the top-mount bracket onto the top panel of themachine, securing down with the chase nipple.Ensure the appropriate wiring is fed through the center holefor connecting to the reader.

  2. Connect all harnesses to the rear of the touchscreen readerwhere required.

    1. For information about where the individual harnessesconnect to, please see F2: FasCard Touchscreen Reader.

  3. Slowly mount the reader to the corresponding bracket with thetop lip catching the locking edges (shown in red) and carefullywedge the reader in place.

  4. Aligning the reader to the top mount also secures the groundpost (show in teal) to the reader.

  5. Secure reader with the included T15 Secure Torx screwson the bottom.

  6. Only F3 FasCard readers – Remove any plastic protectors (if still present) from the touchscreen or EMV chip insert label.
