FasCard F2/F3 Reader Installation Guide - Front Mount

Overview

This page is intended to guide the installer through the steps required to mount a second or third generation FasCard (F2 or F3) reader. FasCard mounting kits may vary, dependent on mounting style and position. In this guide, we will cover the Front Mount positioned reader, shown below.

Front mount solution

When purchasing FasCard readers and their respective installation kits, the most-common default mounting solution involves front-facing orientations. The angle of the reader is directed upwards, allowing the customer to look straight-ahead or slightly downwards to face and interact with the touchscreen and peripheral parts (e.g. magnetic swipe, EMV insert, NFC).

Placement of the reader on the front plate of each machine varies by model type and size. The below guide only covers the universal traits of installing a front-facing reader. It is recommended to place the reader as close to eye level as possible. If a coin drop is being used, then attempt to install the reader as close to the coin drop as possible.

Step-by-step guide

The step-by-step reader touchscreen installation guide covers the process for installing a C-5414 mounting bracket, and its associated parts. Each step of the installation process will list the parts needed and end results of that step.

Installation note

Note that not all installations with the C-5414 mounting bracket will look the same. Physical configurations may differ on a machine-by-machine basis.

Step 1 - Marking and cutting the mounting area

  1. Select a mounting position on the front plate of the desired machine.

    1. The mounting position should be in close proximity to the coin drop (if applicable) and length of installation harnesses.

    2. Mount the reader in a location that will not expose wiring to excessive heat or friction.

  2. Mark the mounting position using C-6700-TEMP.

    1. Hole "C" is the pilot position for the chase nipple/primary mounting point.

    2. Holes "D" and "E" are positioned for optional use to ensure minimal "play" on card reader bracket position.

  3. Drill a 1-1/8" hole using a hole saw.

    1. Use caution when drilling to avoid damaging anything behind the face plate.

    2. Technical Support recommends drilling a pilot hole for stainless steel machines.

    3. Technical Support also recommends use of cutting oil on appropriate surfaces.

  4. The end result should look like the photo on the right.

Step 2 - Attaching the mounting bracket

  1. Align the center hole of the C-5414 mounting bracket to the newly drilled hole on the machine face.

  2. Slip the C-5702 chase nipple through the hole and secure with the C-5703 locknut over the bracket.

    1. Tighten the chase nipple to prevent the bracket from rotating.

    2. Screws may be inserted through the smaller holes provided on the bracket and secured to the mounting face, if desired.

  3. The end result should look like the photo on the right.

Step 3 - Connecting the harnesses

  1. Pull all of the necessary harnesses through the chase nipple. These harnesses are included in the model-specific installation kit. They will include:

    1. Power Harnesses

    2. Machine Start Harness

    3. Coin Harness(es) (if applicable)

  2. Connect the harnesses to the appropriate connection points.

    1. For photographic details about the F2 connections points, please visit F2: FasCard Touchscreen Reader.

  3. The end result should look like the photo on the far-right.

Step 4 - Securing the FasCard reader to the mounting bracket

  1. Slide the notched ridges of the C-5401 F2 reader housing over the top bezel of the C-5414 mounting bracket.

  2. Press the base of the C-5401 F2 reader gently downward until it meets the machine face.

  3. Secure the bottom of the C-5401 F2 reader to the C-5414 mounting bracket with the C-5416 security screws.

  4. The end result should look like the photo on the right, at the bottom.

Step 5 - Powering on and addressing the reader

  1. Before powering on the reader(s), check with the System Operator or CCI Technical Support that all associated equipment types have been assigned machine numbers

  2. Power on the machine to allow the reader to boot up.

  3. Assign the reader an appropriately pre-assigned address.

  4. The reader will download and install its designated firmware files.

  5. Once the install is complete, test accordingly.
