Overview

In a FasCard Touch Kiosk, card dispensers are one of the most vital components. The following is a detailed guide for installing the MT166-C Card Dispenser, whether in new kiosk assembly or to replace an existing card dispenser such as our C-5650R1 Asahi Seiko Card Dispensers.

Additional Requirements

  • Access to the inside of the Touch Kiosk from the front end.

  • PH0 and PH1 Phillips Screwdrivers (or driver with PH0 and PH1 Phillips bits).

  • (Optional) Zip tie cutters and zip ties.

  • (Optional) Small suction cup puller after unlocking cabinet.

Prepare Touch Kiosk (Powering Down)

  1. Unlock the Touch Kiosk cabinet and carefully slide the drawer until you reach the railing stopper. You do not have to pull the drawer completely out, but take caution if the kiosk is not wall-mounted or supported by a mounted base in case the drawer is susceptible to any non-mounted issues or falling out.

  2. Press the Maintenance button on the Touch Kiosk power controller found above the Bill Acceptor behind the Touch Kiosk.

  3. On the touchscreen, press Maintenance Menu → Shutdown/Reboot → Shutdown Computer and wait a few seconds as the Touch Kiosk goes offline.

If you are not sure whether the Touch Kiosk is completely off, check both the visible port side of the TK mainboard (left side when facing the front of the touchscreen) and the power controller for any powered-on lights. If not illuminated, the system is offline.

  1. On the accessible power supply past the Bill Acceptor on the Touch Kiosk shelf, flip the main power switch into the OFF (0) position and unplug the power cable.

Replace the Power Controller (1st Generation Touch Kiosks and Retrofit Kiosks Only)

The C-5651-POWER harness requires the two-pin connector only available in C-5665R1 (or newer) Touch Kiosk Power Controllers. As 1st generation Touch Kiosks have a soldered-on wire pair, replacing the power controller becomes necessary with legacy models.

  1. Disconnect all ports from the Power Controller. If saving the soldered two-pin wires that are feeding from the power controller to the dispenser’s serial port, you will need to unravel any cable management before making said swap, as you would need to also remove the entire power/serial communications harness from the Touch Kiosk card dispenser.

  2. Unmount the previous Power Controller and install the updated model Power Controller.

  3. Reattach all existing ports on the Power Controller, leaving the CARD port unplugged for the replacement Card Dispenser power harness.

Remove the Old Card Dispenser (Asahi Seiko)

From behind the left side of the Touch Kiosk when facing the touchscreen, the card dispenser unit can be found as the entire assembly and will be removed. No dispenser disassembly required.

  1. On the front end of the dispenser, disconnect the USB Cable and Dispenser Harnesses from dispenser itself.

  2. Trace the dispenser USB cable to its opposite end on the Touch Kiosk mainboard and disconnect from the USB ports.

    1. That should leave the Touch Kiosk mainboard with, at most, two (2) available USB ports, or one (1) port if the kiosk has a C-1009 EMV Bezel installed.

  3. Disconnect the two (2) harness connectors in the power controller area of the Touch Kiosk:

    1. On the Power Controller, disconnect the CARD power connector from the controller.

    2. Behind the Power Controller, unmount the screwed-in 9-pin serial connector with a Philips screwdriver and disconnect the communication cable.

If cable management is necessary, ensure that you remove the correct series of zip ties and cable wraps. CCI is not responsible for any problems that may have been the result of attempted cable management.

  1. On the Card Dispenser itself, unscrew the four-to-six (4-6, depending on model) mounting screws using either a PH0 or PH1 Phillips screwdriver or bit and remove the card dispenser from the Touch Kiosk.

If the dispenser has a grounding wire in one of the dispenser mounting screw holes, it is vital said screw and ground wire are reattached.

Mount and Install the MT166-C Card Dispenser

  1. Attach and secure the C-0996 Dispenser Mounting Bracket onto the Touch Kiosk drawer with the existing dispenser mounting screws.

    1. If a grounding wire is present, ensure the grounding screw is secured in place back in its respective corner placement.

  2. Position the C-5651 Card Dispenser onto the top of the Mounting Bracket, ensuring the front bezel meets with the front opening of the card dispenser, aligning the four (4) mounting screw holes to their adjustable positions of the mounting frame of the card dispenser.

  3. Once the dispenser is in place, secure with the four (4) C-1012 Mounting Screws.

  4. On the Power Controller, connect the C-5651-POWER cable to the CARD power connector port.

  5. Behind the Power Controller, connect the C-5651-CABLE into the vacant 9-pin Serial port and secure with the existing connector mounting screws.

  6. Feed the opposite ends of the cabling through the harness channels to connect the C-5651-CABLE and C-5651-POWER communication and power cables to the side of the C-5651 Card Dispenser.

  1. On the Dial Switches, ensure that Switch 1 on the furthest left is set to the ON position and all other dials remain in the OFF position. This is important, as the dispenser will not communicate with the Touch Kiosk otherwise.

Power and Test the Installed Dispenser

  1. Reconnect the power cable to the rear power supply and flip the main power switch into the ON (1) position.

  2. Once fully powered and Touch Kiosk reaches the Home/Idle screen, on the Power Controller, press the Maintenance button.

  3. On the touchscreen, press Diagnostic Menu → Start Diagnostics and observe the Card Dispenser section of the diagnostic screen.

    1. In the Dispenser Card Reader section, press the Reset Comms button.

      1. Result should show the Comms field go from an Offline state to an Online state.

    2. Once back online, press the Power On button in the Card Dispenser section.

      1. Result should show a Power Off button with the Comms field in the Dispenser Card Reader section in an Offline state.

    3. Press the Power Off button to complete the card dispenser power cycle test.

    4. Press the Dispense Card button, retrieving the card being dispensed after two swipes.

      1. This particular Card Dispenser’s read-on-dispense function involves partially dispensing the card, then retrieving the card for its magstripe read, then fully dispensing the card.
Do not grab the dispensed card until the dispenser stops swiping the magstripe and sits idle (usually only takes a couple of seconds per dispense).

    5. Continue to repeatedly Dispense Cards until you reach 20 cards dispensed.
