Features and benefits of the Tripp-Lite UPS

Contains surge-protected only outlets for less critical equipment.
Power conditioning to protect from loads and surges.
PowerAlert software to properly save data and shutdown the computer in the event of an unexpected power failure.
PowerAlert Settings and Setup (500RT1U)
The Tripp-Lite UPS in conjunction with the PowerAlert software are intended to safely shutdown a PC after a loss of power to the UPS has occurred. The Power Alert agent can be configured to perform differently when the UPS enters an "On Battery Event" (i.e. the UPS is receiving power from the battery and not AC power) and when a "Low Battery Event" occurs (i.e. the battery charge rate drops to a designated threshold).
To configure the 500RT1U unit battery access the following:
Click the Windows button on the keyboard.
Type PowerAlert Console in the search bar.
Click the STATUS icon at the top of the Console.
Click the BATTERY icon.
View the Battery Information under Device Summary.
Legacy configuration for LaundryCard utilized a 2 min. PC shutdown timer and a 6 min. UPS shutdown timer.
Set Configuration
Click the Windows button on the keyboard.
Type PowerAlert in the search bar.
Select the PowerAlert console when it appears (steps a-c is applicable to Version 7 or earlier. For version 8 or later, skip to step 4)
Open the Start menu view.
Right-click anywhere and click ‘All apps’ at bottom-right.
Locate the PowerAlert console icon under the Tripp-Lite group.
If a Windows Security Alert dialog appears, press Allow Access.
From the Summary Screen, press Settings.
Select Device.
In the column next to "Low battery warning", set to: 10%.
Click Apply.
Then click Status.
Click the Battery icon and to the right it will show 10% next to "Low Battery Warning".
From the Summary Screen again, press Settings.
Select System.
In the "Shutdown Type (Global Warning)" section, set to: Shutdown.
Click Apply.
Close the PowerAlert console window.
LaundryCard Configuration
The PowerAlert agent affects a shutdown of the PC and UPS after a "Low Battery Event" occurs. If power is restored to the UPS prior to the configured shutdown time, the device will remain powered on.
These are the recommended "Low Battery Event" settings for the LaundryCard X-Changers to be assigned within the PowerAlert console.
On Battery Event | Not Configured |
---|---|
Low Battery Threshold | 10% |
PC Shutdown Timer | 15 sec. after event |
UPS Shutdown Timer | 2 min. after event |
Testing (500 RT1U)
To test your UPS, follow the owner's manual section titled "To Run a Self-Test" on page 7. The procedure will be similar to the following:
With your UPS plugged in and turned on, press and hold the ON/OFF/STANDBY button for one second.
The test will last approximately 10 seconds as the UPS switches to battery to test its load capacity and charge.
All LEDs will be lit and the UPS alarm will sound.
See LED descriptions to determine the results of the Self-Test.
Note: you can leave connected equipment on during a self-test. Your UPS, however, will not perform a self-test if you have placed it in "Charge Only" mode.
