FasCard/FLEX F2 Reader Field Replaceable Components Guide

Overview

This page is intended to guide the installer through the replacement of the standard components considered to be field replaceable in an F2 FasCard or Flex Reader.

Tools and Supplies Needed

  • 8-32" Torx Security Driver (T15)

  • No.2 Phillips Screwdriver (or equivalent)

Part & Kit Breakdown

The second-generation FasCard readers and their components are separated into three variants: F2, F2a, and F2e. To determine which reader type you have, you can check the reader’s part number (e.g., C-5401, C-5402, C-5401E) or by accessing the FasCard Admin Site, go to the System tab, then scroll down to your desired reader and check the right-most column, labelled Hardware Ver.. Reference the hardware version or part number obtained against the table below for the part number(s) you will need.

  • C-5402 readers are NOT compatible with the following and have a separate part number:

    • Lower Housing – C-5424

    • MSR Read Head Keeper – C-5425

    • Foam Gasket – C-5427

    • MSR and Keeper – C-5432

  • For the FLEX labelled parts:

    • LCD and Label – C-5415-FLEX

    • Label – C-5422-FLEX

Step 1 - Remove the F2 FasCard Reader from mount

  1. Locate and remove the C-5416 security screws underneath the FasCard reader.

  2. Gently pull the bottom of the reader forward until it clears the bottom of the C-5414 mounting bracket.

  3. Lift the top of the reader clear of the C-5414 mounting bracket. 

  4. Disconnect all harnesses connected to the reader.

Step 2 - Disconnecting the display housing from the main housing

  1. Disconnect the MagStripe Reader (MSR) from the control board.

  2. Identify and remove the four (4) Philips screws.

  3. Gently lift the display housing (with the control board attached) from the main reader housing.

Step 3 - Disconnecting the display housing from the Control Board

  1. Disconnect the display cable by pulling the black tab outwards, towards the cable.

  2. Disconnect the interface cable by lifting the "T" portion (from the sides).

  3. The display housing is connected to the control board with a small plastic clip. 

  4. Using gentle pressure, lift the bottom edge of the circuit board free of the corner pegs.

    1. CCI Technical Support recommends setting the control board on a static-resistant surface.

Step 4 - Mounting the Control Board on the replacement Display Housing

  1. Place the mounting hole shown in Step 3, 4.a. above, over the mounting clip. 

  2. Gently maneuver the Control Board into a locked position with the four corner posts. 

  3. Connect the display cable to the slot. 

    1. Hold the cable in place and slide the black tab into the connector to lock it into place.

  4. Connect the interface cable by pushing down gently until it locks into place. 

Step 5 - Connect the Display Housing to the Main Housing

  1. Slide the Main Housing onto the Display Housing and secure them together with the screws from Steps 2, 2..

  2. Reconnect the MSR cable.

  3. Remount the reader onto the machine. 

    1. Refer to FasCard F2/F3 Reader Installation Guide - High-Front & Top-Mount, or;

  1. Locate and remove the C-5416 security screws underneath the FasCard reader.

Step 3 - Disconnected the Magnetic Stripe Reader (MSR) from the Main Housing

  1. Locate the C-5431 or C-5432 MSR assembly in the Main Housing. 

  2. With gentle pressure, lift the leading edge (opposite of the clips) clear of the mounting groove.

  3. The MSR may now be lifted up and away from the clips that were highlighted above.

Step 4 - Connecting the replacement MSR to the Main Housing

  1. Reverse Step 3, 2. to connect the C-5431 or C-5432 replacement MSR assembly to the main housing. 

  2. The plastic housing has some flex to it and will lock together with gentle pressure if the reader housing is properly aligned. 

Step 5 - Connect the Display Housing to the Main Housing

  1. Slide the Main Housing onto the Display Housing and secure them together with the screws from Step 2, 2..

  2. Reconnect the MSR cable.

  3. Remount the reader onto the machine.
